Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative (HWE) held its 69th Annual Meeting in Findlay on Saturday, September 16 to a crowd of around 2,200 people, which is believed to have been the largest customer party in northwest Ohio.
The meeting covered several co-op business and financial items, but also included a fun atmosphere with a theme focused around “Working Hard for Members.” Children’s activities, booths and other giveaways added to the excitement of the day, preceded by a free buffet meal of eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes and much more. Even Miss Teen USA 2005 Allie LaForce appeared and signed autographs for members. HWE also conducted a successful food drive, which benefited the City Mission of Findlay and the BG Christian Food Pantry.
The results of recent trustee elections were announced, as well as the swearing in of each elected trustee at the meeting. Members from District 1 elected Steve Gerten; this district includes the Henry Co. townships of Bartlow, Marion and Richfield; Putnam Co. townships Blanchard, Ottawa and Van Buren; and, Wood Co. townships Jackson and Milton. District 4 elected Marlene Barker, whose district includes Allen, Blanchard, Pleasant and Portage townships. District 5 re-elected Ed Crawford, whose district comprises Marion of Hancock Co. District 10 is Kelleys Island, who chose Knut Lahrs as its representative.
Featured speaker Sheldon C. Petersen, Governor and CEO of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation, provided a national industry update.
