NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio - 6:55 am - Strong winds and lightning overnight caused 1,800 outages in Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative (HWE) service territory, with nearly all having been restored already. Most HWE crews are working on site to restore the remaining members.
At the time of this release, only about five (5) members remain without power. It is anticipated that all power will be restored sometime this morning. Most of the outages were related to:
- Two substations losing power due to American Electric Power (AEP) transmission lines feeding them. Substations affected were the West Findlay Substation, which serves the areas of Benton Ridge and Rawson, and the Mt. Cory Substation, which serves the areas of Mt. Cory, Bluffton and Arlington. The substations lost power around 11:00 pm, and were back online around 2:30 am.
- Tree limbs falling into wires.
- Six (6) broken poles.
The outages were all very widespread throughout HWE’s territory, not confined to any one area. Anyone experiencing future outages should call HWE at 888-417-3010.
