Scholarships open to Hancock-Wood members

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio - Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative (HWEC) could help pay for your education. That’s because HWEC is sponsoring five scholarship programs for area students:

High school seniors only - $5,400 total - open to HS seniors attending any college/university
High school scholarships will be awarded to six seniors this spring, amounting to $5,400 total. The scholarships will be awarded to three students in two divisions (boys/girls). First place winners receive $1000; second place, $900; and third place winners, $800. To enter:
• Entrants must be the child/legal ward of a member or someone living on HWEC’s power lines.
• Students must be current high school seniors with a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher through the first semester of this year.
• Scholarship applications must be returned or postmarked by March 1, 2008. To download an application, visit www.hwelectric.com.

Touchstone Energy Special Achievement Scholarship - $1,500 total - open to HS seniors attending any college/university - for those who have faced personal obstacles or challenges beyond their control
This program is based on the Touchstone Energy four core values, and students will be judged on how well their activities reflect the four core values of Touchstone Energy (accountability, integrity, innovation and commitment to community), as well as their drive and dedication to achieving a college education despite any personal obstacles or special challenges they have faced. There will be two first place $1,500 awards and two second place $750 awards. To enter:
• Entrants must be the child or legal ward of a member or must be the child/ward of persons living on our lines.
• Students must be current high school seniors with a grade-point average of 2.75 or higher through the first semester of this year.
• Scholarship applications must be returned or postmarked by March 1, 2008. To download an application, visit www.hwelectric.com.

Earl & Edith Dick Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 total - open to HS seniors pursuing career in education
This scholarship will be presented to one high school senior who lives on Hancock-Wood’s lines and is enrolled in an education program at any university. This is sponsored by Frank Dick, whose father worked for Hancock-Wood Electric in the 1940's. To enter:
• Entrants must be the child/legal ward of a member or someone living on HWEC’s power lines.
• Students must be current high school seniors with a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher through the first semester of this year.
• Students must be enrolled in an education program.
• Scholarship applications must be returned or postmarked by March 1, 2008. To download an application, visit www.hwelectric.com.

University of Findlay - $600 total - open to current UF students
• Applicants must be either the dependent child or ward of a member or of a person living on HWEC power lines, a member of Hancock-Wood, or a person living on our power lines.
• Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher HS, and a 3.0 or higher GPA after taking 12 or more hours of courses at UF. Contact the UF Financial Aid Office for applications and additional information.
• This scholarship is not available to incoming freshmen.

Owens Community College - $600 total - open to current and incoming OCC students
• Applicants must be either the dependent child or ward of a member or a person living on HWEC power lines, a member of Hancock-Wood, or a person living on our power lines.
• Entrants must have a 2.75 or higher GPA in high school. If enrolled at OCC, applicants must have a 2.75 or higher GPA after taking 12 or more hours of courses. Contact the Owens Financial Aid Office for applications and additional information.
