At its recent Annual Meeting, Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative (HWE) employees were proud to present a special American flag that was flown over Iraq.
The idea was conceived by HWE employees Bill Barnhart and Doug Breiholz, who wanted to do something for fellow employee Jim St. Julian’s son -- Staff Sgt. Joseph St. Julian, U.S. Marines -- who is currently serving in Iraq. So, Breiholz organized an employee collection of food, phone cards, toys, candy and other items, which was sent to the soldiers in Sgt. St. Julian’s combat team to share with fellow soldiers and Iraqi children. A U.S. flag was also mailed to Sgt. St. Julian, who proudly flew it in Iraq in June and sent it back to HWE. Breiholz then presented the flag to the HWE employees and trustees at the Annual Meeting last month.
“It is an honor to receive this flag from our employees,” said President & CEO George Walton. “It represents the ultimate in service and dedication to our country, and it is particularly special since it involves one of our employee’s sons.”
