NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio - 12:30 pm - The number of those without
power from the original winter storm in Hancock-Wood Electric
Cooperative (HWE) service territory has dwindled to 170.
However, some new outages are taking place (about 250 total)
as ice melts off the lines, causing the primary and neutral
lines on the poles to come in contact with one another. This
happens when heavy ice melts and then falls off the sagging
line, and tension causes the wire to bounce up and down until
the line returns to its original state. In doing so, the primary
and neutral lines can touch and disrupt the flow of electricity.
As for the remaining 170, several to be restored still need
specific individual attention due to fallen service wires
or broken poles at homes. These individual projects are time
consuming when crews must do work for only one account, as
opposed to restoring masses with one repair. Of course, the
work will continue until the restoration is complete. Through
the efforts of round-the-clock work from HWE and other crews
from Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky, HWE hopes to have many restored
today, with possibly all back on sometime Monday
