winter member trip is all about shopping

A holiday tradition continues, as we’re giving you your yearly excuse to shop ‘til you drop!

This year we’re heading to the one-of-a-kind IKEA store in Canton, Mich., on Tuesday, November 25, 2008.  Spending a day at IKEA is an event for the whole family, and unlike any other.

And IKEA is BIG -- 311,000 square feet (a typical Sam’s Club is 110,000 square feet) -- so wear comfortable shoes.

IKEA is a Swedish founded, international home products retailer that sells low-price products, including furniture, accessories, bathrooms and kitchens items.  It became famous for the fact that customers have to assemble many of the products, but that allows them to pack most of their items flat (allowing you to get them home easily) and to charge you less for their products.  If you haven’t been to an IKEA before, it’s quite an experience.

And, we’ve arranged for a free breakfast once you arrive at 9:00 am. Later when you get hungry after all the shopping, lunch is on your own, which you can again enjoy in their fantastic restaurant.

Since it’s not uncommon for people to leave IKEA with large items, keep in mind that everyone on the trip is entitled to bus underside storage space equivalent to two suitcases.  If your items exceed your allotted space, or it simply cannot fit on the bus in any way, home delivery of IKEA items starts at $49, which you can arrange at the store.

This trip is open to all Hancock-Wood members and their friends and costs $18 a person, which covers transportation.  The bus will leave the Hancock-Wood parking lot on Tuesday, November 25 at 7 a.m. and will return by 4 p.m. (coffee and donuts will be available before the bus leaves).  Reservations are available by calling Mary at 419-257-5009 with a credit card, or by mailing a check to Hancock-Wood with the printable form below.
