summer member trip to ford factory tour

At the site where automobile manufacturing as we know it came of age -- and continues to define the state-of-the-art today -- the Ford Rouge Factory Tour is a firsthand journey into the genius of American manufacturing. And Hancock-Wood’s Summer Member Trip will take you there either on Wed., June 25, and Thur., June 26, 2008.

The tour will offer rare historic footage of the triumphs and tragedies surrounding the Rouge. A virtual reality theater will provide a 360-degree look at how automobiles are made, then you’ll get to view the world’s largest living roof from an 80-foot-high Observation Deck. Finally, you’ll see where the new Ford F-150s are assembled in a new lean and flexible manufacturing plant, viewing the final assembly process from an elevated walkway. (Note: Because production varies by vehicle demand, you may be touring the Dearborn Truck Plant when Ford is not building vehicles. Production hours are inconsistent, and the tour does not control when vehicles are being produced.  You will still be able to visit the assembly line area temporarily suspended in mid-operation.)

The fun doesn’t stop there. Next you’ll visit one of Detroit’s most happening neighborhoods: Greektown. Many, in fact, consider Greektown to be “Detroit’s Downtown,” offering an interesting collection of restaurants, lounges and shops. Music and laughter fill the air and the aroma of mouth-watering delicacies tempt you into one of the many welcoming eateries. No matter where you visit in Greektown, you’ll discover incredible food at dozens of quality restaurants – most known for their reasonable prices. Lunch is on your own, but be sure to visit the Greektown link above so you’ll have a better idea where you might like to go when you get there.

This trip is open to all Hancock-Wood members and their friends and costs $35 a person, which covers transportation and the Rouge tour. The bus will leave the Hancock-Wood parking lot on Wed., June 25 or Thur., June 26, 2008 at 6:30 a.m. and will return by 4:30 p.m. (coffee and donuts will be available before the bus leaves). Reservations are available by calling Mary at 419-257-5009 with a credit card, or by mailing a check to Hancock-Wood with the printable form below.
