We offer four scholarship programs:
1.
High School Scholarship
Hancock-Wood awards thousands in scholarships to the sons, daughters
or wards of members living on our lines. This competition
is open to any HS senior attending an accredited
college or university in the fall. Our first place girl and
boy are also eligible to compete at the statewide level for
additional aid.
Rules
1. Eligibility: A. Entrants must be the child or legal
ward of an Hancock-Wood member or must be the child/ward of persons
living on our lines. Therefore, if your parents are Hancock-Wood
members (the account must be in their name), regardless
of residency, you are eligible. B. Children of renters are
not eligible unless the parents are receiving electricity
in their name, which makes them a member. C. Employees
-- and their children -- of businesses on our lines do not qualify
as Hancock-Wood members.
2. A scholarship program application must be returned or
postmarked by March 1. It must be signed in all locations
as indicated.
3. The student
must be a current high school senior with a grade-point
average of 3.50 or higher. A grade transcript through the
first semester of the senior year is required.
4. An applicant
who has received a full tuition scholarship to the school
of choice is not eligible for a scholarship from Hancock-Wood or
OREC. If the applicant learns of the full scholarship award
anytime after filling out our official application but prior
to our interview, please let us know so we can cancel the
appointment. After all, the applicant will again be asked
about any full scholarships awarded during the interview,
so notifying us will save everyone time from taking part
in unnecessary interviews.
5. Applicants
will be interviewed to determine the winners.
6. There will
be a girls and boys division. First ($1,000), second ($900), third ($800), fourth ($700), fifth ($600) and sixth place ($300) will be awarded in each division.
Checks will be made co-payable to the students and colleges
they have chosen.
7. Hancock-Wood's first
place winners (boys/girls) will be eligible to compete in
Columbus in the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc.,
scholarship competition for additional prizes. Participants
in the OREC competition must be receiving electric service
from Hancock-Wood at the time of the competition (usually in May).
A portion of the scoring in the statewide competition deals
with cooperative knowledge. Hancock-Wood's entrants at the statewide
level will be provided with study booklets.

2.
Touchstone Energy Special Achievement Scholarship
Founded in 2004, a scholarship program based on the Touchstone
Energy four core values was introduced by our statewide office:
the Touchstone Energy Special Achievement Scholarship. Students
will be judged on how well their activities reflect the four
core values of Touchstone Energy (accountability, integrity,
innovation and commitment to community), as well as their
drive and dedication to achieving a college education despite
any personal obstacles or special challenges they have faced.
In particular, judges will look at any obstacles or challenges that were beyond the student's control. There will be two first place $1,500 awards and two second
place $750 awards, all for high school seniors of cooperative
members; minimum GPA is 2.75. Hancock-Wood will submit one applicant
(either girl or boy) who will come to our statewide office
-- Ohio
Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. -- in Columbus in the
spring for judging. The deadline is March 1 each year.
